Trippr Kodaikanal Backpacker Hostel

I had a wonderful trip to Kodaikanal and stayed at the Trippr Hostel, where Mehul, the host, made our experience truly exceptional. His professionalism, friendly manner, and excellent care for all of us left a lasting impression. The property itself had a great vibe, creating a fantastic atmosphere for our stay. I highly recommend this hostel for a memorable and pleasant visit to Kodaikanal.

Loved the chill vibe of the stay. Had received all the info one must require before the stay. Only issues I faced was that the location is far from city centre and there is only one cafe to rely on for food. Although it's a beautiful cafe but maybe they could arrange a canteen Or something like zostel for more food options. Bathroom in my room didn't have mirror so that was an issue. And I have never payed for bonfire in any other hostel but this. Barring these issues, Kishore was very helpful and accommodating with any queries and troubles. He arranged local dinner for all the hostellers at cheap price which was very tasty and homely. Loved the people I met there!

Beautiful location amidst the hills. Away from the city. Quiet area. Irresponsibly managed. The staff is kind and friendly. Fairly clean. They change the sheets after each member vacates their bed. Economically priced. Basic services aren't available. You've to travel 3 km away for food, laundry, and other essentials. No delivery either. Transportation isn't available around. The day we reached, the owner sent me all details of cab service, general guidelines etc. via WhatsApp. We had to use that can service. They provide 1 blanket that's warm, but not adequate for the cold nights. Would have been convenient to have some basics such as a paid laundry service and maybe a microwave/electric kettle for making tea/coffee. Since it's chilly during the night, one might want a nightcap. There's only 1 restaurant ~300 m away which has average food. The view is absolutely stunning from here! The bathroom in our basement dorm was damp, had no ventilation/exhaust, had moulds all over, and smelled disgustingly wet throughout the day. The weather is humid so it doesn't dry out on its own. On our last day, something ridiculous happened. One of the staff members, a man stormed into our dorm without knocking at 7 in the morning while we were all fast asleep, entered the bathroom, and started checking for leakage issues (I'm assuming)— waking us up in the process. The basic courtesy to knock may elude most Indian men, but if you're running a hostel open to all genders, you need to learn the basics! More so when you're entering a mixed dorm with women inside. Also leakage issues can be fixed later in the day, after running it by the temporary residents of the room. It can't be that urgent to fix them in the wee hours of the morning! Overall, the place gets points for the location, being in a quiet area, being clean, and easy on the pocket. Loses for not making an effort to make the essentials available, and in general, more convenient for people on a holiday. Definitely not worth a 4.6 (the Google rating at the time of writing this review). We need to aspire for higher standards IMO.

As solo traveler, I like to stay in hostels because they are less expensive and allow me to meet new people. Originally, I intended to reserve another accommodation for a vacation to Kodai. But I've crashed here. I would say I will never be sorry. I felt at peace the entire time I was there. I was content there. When I traveled, I always had trouble sleeping. I think I was able to sleep well since I felt at ease there. The people I met there were really wonderful. Regarding the hostel, I understand that cleanliness cannot be guaranteed due to the large number of people sharing the same area. However, this is a well-kept and clean facility. Kishore, the manager, was a lovely person. Throughout the days I was there, he made sure I was comfortable. My main challenge has been getting there. There is only one option: a taxi, which is somewhat pricey (at least for me). Fortunately, Kishore had arranged for a cab, which greatly aided me. If you're unsure about booking the space, just do it. You will not be sorry. This was the most enjoyable trip I've ever taken.
